Troubleshooting

If something doesn't work as expected, this page should resolve it. If not, file a ticket — your claim ID and client version travel with the request automatically.

Activation

Error: unknown_activation_key

  • Confirm the key is from the order email (subject begins with "Your Binary Intelligence license"). The dashboard key is the one to use; the Stripe receipt does not contain a key.
  • Keys are case-insensitive but exclude the characters 0 O 1 I L — typos that introduce these will fail.
  • If you've reinstalled and the original key was used on another PC, sign in to the portal and release the prior machine first.

Error: already_activated on a Home license

Home licenses cover one PC. Release the old machine from /account/licenses/ (limit one release per 30 days), then retry.

Error: revoked

The license was revoked (refund, cancellation, or supersession by a renewal). Check /account/billing/ for the current subscription, and /account/licenses/ for the audit trail.

Installer

SmartScreen warning on download

If you see a "Windows protected your PC" warning, click More info and confirm the publisher is C2Consultants, LLC. If the publisher is anything else, do not run the file — re-download from the customer portal.

MSI fails with 1603

  • Verify you're running as Administrator.
  • Collect a verbose log: msiexec /i BinaryIntelligenceClient.msi /l*v %TEMP%\bi-install.log and attach it to your support ticket.

Connectivity

The client requires outbound HTTPS to:

  • licensing.binaryintelligence.ai — license refresh + revocation checks (~once/6h)
  • binaryintelligence.ai/api/* — activation, downloads, portal
  • mimir.binaryintelligence.ai — corpus access (read at minimum; contribute on SMB/Enterprise)

Logs

Event log: Windows Logs → Applications and Services Logs → BinaryIntelligence → Operational.

Bundled diagnostic for support tickets:

BinaryIntelligence.Client.exe diag --bundle %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\bi-diag.zip

The bundle redacts PII (machine name, user name) and includes the last 7 days of operational logs plus the active license claim ID. Attach to your support ticket.
